About me:

A few facts about me so you can get a sense of who I am and if we could work well together:

  • I’m a queer (bi/pan-sexual), cis-gender woman, with some fluidity to my gender identify.

  • I have lived experience of late diagnosis ADHD and as an unpaid carer for my sister who has a severe disability.

  • I’m expressive and enjoy wearing colourful clothing.

  • I love being a therapist and care deeply about this work. I am often moved by the courage my clients bring to therapy.

  • I swim in the sea daily and love creating my own meaningful rituals.

I’ve also worked as an NHS Carer Peer Support Coach, in Occupational Therapy with children and adults with PMLD, a Community Engagement Manager in the arts, a Support Group Facilitator, and as a Writer/Performer.

I believe in:

  • Including nervous system work in talking therapy. Long-term healing often comes from learning to recognise and regulate your nervous system. Many mental health issues arise from ā€œfunctionalā€ trauma states of fight, flight, freeze and fawn. These are learnt responses to previous environments that have become fixed patterns. These can be relaxed and changed with time and practice.

  • Using creative tools like drawing when working with your unconscious. These are helpful in seeing how you really feel underneath your mind’s story.

  • Parts work when working with inner conflicts.

  • Learning to see yourself in full with compassion.

  • The ā€œsacred pauseā€ (Tara Brach) - stepping out of automatic ā€œdoingā€ and into presence and ā€œbeingā€. Therapy is like a sacred pause, as it’s a moment to reflect and ā€œcreate a clearing in the dense forest of your lifeā€ (Martha Postlewaite).

…And lots more.

A metaphor for calming your nervous system through therapy

My work is informed by:

I work holistically and my training was integrative. This means I bring in learnings from:

  • Psychosynthesis (my main training). This is transpersonal psychology that sees us all as having a drive to live more of who we really are, and following that drive to be a vital part of healing.

  • Somatic Experiencing (SE)

  • Psychodynamic

  • Person-Centered

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Jungian Archetypes and Storytelling

  • Family Constellations and intergenerational trauma

  • Gestalt

  • Creative tools (drawing, imagination, meditations).

I regularly undergo further training too.
